Last year, Disney’s Onyx Collective released a brand new comedy series called “UnPrisoned”, which has been inspired by Tracy McMillan’s life, who created the series.

This half-hour comedy is about a messy but perfectionist relationship therapist and single mom whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad gets out of prison and moves in with her and her teenage son.

The show’s star Kerry Washington has taken to Instagram to confirm that “UnPrisoned” won’t be returning for a third season and has been cancelled.

Ladies & Gents, that is a wrap on Unprisoned.

This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3. But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful. Making this show was a labor of love. And we know that so many of you found connection and healing with The Alexander Family – and that their impact will live on! We are soooooo grateful to the entire cast & crew – who are not only brilliant and hardworking, but a JOY to work with! Thank you to our fellow producers and all our writers and directors for leading and guiding and inspiring us. Thank you to ABCS, Hulu & Onyx for giving us a creative home. And most importantly, we are grateful to YOU ALL – for watching, laughing, crying, yelling, dancing, eye-rolling, cheering (and all of the things between) along with us each episode. It was such a blessing. And we thank you.

“UnPrisoned” was released on Disney’s streaming services, Hulu in the United States and Disney+ internationally, but while it was able to secure a second season, it even used a cliffhanger at the end of that season, opening it up for a third.

Roger’s Take: It’s unfortunate that another show has been cancelled, but now that Disney is much more selective on how much general entertainment content it creates, it’s unlikely this series secured enough viewers to warrant more expensive by Disney. As with everything that’s cancelled, if you haven’t watched it yet or haven’t finished watching it, I’d recommend doing it quickly, as Disney does have a tendency to remove cancelled shows to try to save money.
