Two Marvel Disney+ Shows To Air On FXX
Over the past few years, we’ve seen a significant shift within the television industry, where streaming originals were generally available only on streaming platforms. That strategy has slowly been changing, especially at Disney, which is now viewing linear and streaming content on par with each other.
In July, we are seeing the lines blur even more as two Disney+ Original animated shows from Marvel will be airing on linear television for the first time. “Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man” and “X-Men ’97”, will begin airing on FXX later today at 5 pm, with two episodes of each show airing each night throughout the week.
“Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man” is an animated series that follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.
Marvel Animation’s “X-Men’97” revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.
Roger’s Take: This shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see Disney putting its animated shows on its linear channels, since it provides cable customers a way of watching these shows and offers new original content for these channels, with no additional cost. I’m surprised the shows aren’t also going to be made available on the Disney Channel or Disney XD, instead of FXX, but if they are aiming for more older audiences, it might explain the choice. Either way, it’s great for FXX viewers, offers the show a new audience, and ultimately is a win/win for everyone.
Both shows are also available to stream on Disney+ now, and the second seasons of both original animated series are due to arrive on Disney+ next year.
