“Twilight” Saga Removed From Disney+
Earlier this year, Disney+ subscribers around the world got access to the entire “Twilight” saga of movies, which consists of five films: “Twilight,” “Twilight: New Moon,” “Twilight: Eclipse,” and “Twilight: Breaking Dawn,” Parts 1 and 2. All of them are based on the book series by Stephenie Meyer.
This film series stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together…even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires.
With the start of a brand new month, we sometimes see some movies and shows removed from Disney+ due to a variety of different reasons, usually connected to licensing agreements.
Unfortunately for “Twilight” fans, it looks like the agreement between Disney and Summit Entertainment, was only a short term six month licencing deal, as all of the movies have now been removed from Disney+ in many countries around the world including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many other others.
Oddly, the “Twilight” collection is still showing as available within Disney+, though that collection is completely empty. Though I suspect that won’t be available too much longer, once the tech team realises its still there.
Roger’s Take: It’s a shame that the “Twilight” movies have been removed from Disney+ around the world, especially since Disney never informs subscribers in advance that shows or films are going to be taken off. The addition of the “Twilight” films was a rare instance of Disney licensing movies on a global scale, but it also continues to show the major problem with these deals, as the “Twilight” films join the classic “Indiana Jones” and the Sony “Spider-Man” films, in only being available for a limited period.
Adding licensed content from other studios can be a great way of keeping Disney+ fresh with different content, but since it’s a rare occurrence, most subscribers expect films to stay available continuously, so I doubt this move will go down well!
