During last years Investor Day event, a third “Sister Act” film was officially announced and that it will return with Whoopi Goldberg on board to star and produce the movie for Disney+.

Deadline has announced some more details on the film. Tim Federle has been brought onto the project to direct.  He is currently working on a new film version of his book “Better Nate Than Ever “, starring Lisa Kudrow for Disney+ and he is also one of the creators behind the Disney+ series “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series”.  He also won an Oscar for his work on the 20th Century Studios film animated “Ferdinand”.

It’s also been revealed that Madhuri Shekar is writing the script for the sequel.  She has previously worked on Amazon’s “Evil Eye”, Netflix’s “The Three-Body Problem”, and HBO’s “The Nevers’.

In the original film, A Reno singer witnesses a mob murder and the cops stash her in a nunnery to protect her from the mob’s hitmen. The mother superior does not trust her, and takes steps to limit her influence on the other nuns. Eventually, the singer rescues the failing choir and begins helping with community projects, which gets her an interview on TV—and identification by the mob.

Tyler Perry and Tom Leonardis will produce this new Disney+ Original film.

No other details about the upcoming Disney+ film have been revealed, such as what the plot will be or when it will be released.

The first two “Sister Act” films are available to stream on Disney+ now.
