“This Is Not Hollywood” Coming Soon To Hulu & Hulu On Disney+
Last month, Disney released a new brand new original drama series called “This Is Not Hollywood” in Italy and it’s gone on to become the biggest General Entertainment series launch on Disney+ in Italy, based on views in its first 7 days.
The series chronicles a true crime involving the death of a young woman named Sarah Scazzi and the massive media impact that characterised it. The show comprises of four sixty-minute episodes, each giving the point of view of one of the story’s main protagonists (Sarah, her cousin Sabrina, her uncle Michele and her aunt Cosima) and offers a multi-voiced report of one of Italy’s most notorious crime cases.
It’s the 26th of August 2010, and Sarah, a 15-year-old girl, goes missing in Avetrana, a small town scorched by the sun in the Apulian outskirts, close to the sea. The whole town grows concerned, her cousin Sabrina above all. She was waiting for Sarah in her house in Via Deledda to go to the beach that very afternoon. It looks like an innocent escape from home, but it’s not. While everyone is looking for her, Sarah has already been swallowed by darkness, and her body is found at the bottom of a well.
Today, the original series “This Is Not Hollywood” has been released exclusively on Disney+ in the UK & Ireland and Disney has also announced that the Italian series will be available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States on December 11th, 2024.
The show did hit some legal problems in Italy just prior to the launch of the show, which saw the show temporarily delayed from its initial launch by a week and it had the name of the town, Avetrana, removed from the title of the show, as the mayor of the town took Disney to court claiming that the use of the town’s name in the series’ original title could be defamatory.
“This Is Not Hollywood” stars Vanessa Scalera as Cosima Misseri, Paolo De Vita as Michele Misseri, Giulia Perulli as Sabrina Misseri, Imma Villa as Concetta Serrano, Federica Pala as Sarah Scazzi, Anna Ferzetti in the role of the journalist Daniela, with Giancarlo Commare as Ivano, Geno Diana as Giove and Antonio Gerardi as Maresciallo Persichella.
The series is based on “Sarah la ragazza di Avetrana” book, written by Carmine Gazzanni and Flavia Piccinni and published by Fandango Libri. It’s been directed by Pippo Mezzapesa, who also wrote the screenplay along with Antonella W. Gaeta, Davide Serino, Carmine Gazzanni and Flavia Piccinni, the series is produced by Matteo Rovere, a Groenlandia production.
