Earlier this week, it was revealed that dozens of Disney+ Original shows and films would be removed from Disney+ globally within the next week.  These removals include shows, such as “Willow”, “Big Shot”, “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers”, and many more.  Disney is removing these shows as an impairment charge of between $1.5 and $1.8 billion, which basically means writing off assets that are no longer as valuable as they may have once been.

One of the shows set to be removed is “The Quest”, which was created by the Academy Award- and Emmy-winning teams behind “The Lord of the Rings,” “The Amazing Race” and “Queer Eye,” “The Quest” is a ground-breaking, immersive, hybrid competition series that drops eight real-life teenagers (Paladins) into the fantastic, fictional world of Everealm, where they must save a Kingdom by fulfilling an ancient prophecy. Throughout the eight-episode series, these heroes are immersed in a fantasy world come to life, complete with a castle, royals, ethereal Fates, all forms of mystical creatures and a Sorceress intent on destruction and power.

Following the news that “The Quest” is scheduled to be removed from Disney+ this month, the executive producers of the show, Harvey Fleming and Mark Ordesky, released a statement to “The Quest Army” about the removal.

Dearest Quest Army, Like you, we found out yesterday that #THEQUEST would be pulled from Disney+. To say we are disappointed would be an understatement.

We are sorry that you, our most loyal fans, can no longer watch it, that new fans can’t discover the wonder and joy in its DNA, and that our award-winning team who worked tirelessly to put together such a beautiful and inspired series can no longer point to their achievement.

Sadly, we were told that there just weren’t enough people engaging with the show to justify its inclusion on the platform and Disney+ decided to remove it, alongside other great content, as a write-off.

We are forever grateful for your enthusiasm, support and love of THE QUEST. Everealm will live on – in your imaginations and ours. Gratefully, Jane and Mark

[Unfortunately Disney owns the IP so unless they want to make another season through one of their subsidiaries, we have reached the end of the road.]

With Disney looking to make drastic cuts to its original programming to save money, unfortunately, writing off shows that have underperformed is quickly becoming a new strategy by many of the studios.  With these shows not even being available to buy on physical media or digital platforms, they could be lost to the vault forever.

If you haven’t checked out “The Quest” on Disney+ already, or want to rewatch it.  It is currently scheduled to be removed on May 26th 2023.
