After many years of the annual Academy Awards broadcasting on Canal+ in France, Disney has announced that the Oscars will be moving to Disney+.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2nd 2025, at the Dolby Theater, and Disney+ subscribers will get access to the red carpet and ceremony live event.

The announcement was made at a special event in Paris, highlighting some of the new content heading to Disney+ in the future.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Emmy Award-winning television host, writer, producer and comedian Conan O’Brien will be hosting the event.

The Oscars will air live on ABC in the United States and broadcast outlets worldwide on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST, with the official live red carpet show airing at 6:30 p.m. EST/3:30 p.m. PST.  The Oscars will also be available to stream the day after on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+.

Roger’s Take: It’s interesting to see that the Oscars have been moving to Disney+ in France since last year; Disney also made a multi-year deal with ITV platforms in the UK rather than putting it on Disney+.   This could be an indication that Disney is looking to take advantage of these major global events, or they couldn’t find any other broadcaster in France that wanted to pay for the event!?
