During Disney’s Horizons presentation at the Honda Center as part of this weekend’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event, some new details were revealed on Disney’s partnership with Epic Games, which was also live-streamed for the first time directly within the hit game, Fortnite.

The creative leader from across The Walt Disney Company — Jennifer Lee from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pete Docter from Pixar Animation Studios, Kevin Feige from Marvel Studios, and Dave Filoni from Lucasfilm — took to the stage alongside Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro to discuss Disney’s expansive collaboration with Epic Games and how the full power of Disney storytelling will come to this dynamic, new environment.

They shared how the world’s most notable characters and stories will converge in one connected universe where fans can watch, play and even create Disney stories. The group also announced new characters and skins coming soon to Fortnite in the coming months including Disney Villains to The Incredibles.  It was also revealed that some new skins from the hit Disney+ series, “The Mandalorian”, including Moff Gideon and IG-11, alongside a Grogu Back Bling, will be arriving in Fortnite on August 12th PT.

Today, three characters from the hit animated series, “X-Men ’97”, Cyclops, Jubilee and Colossus, are also available from today within the game.   Each skin is available individually or as part of a discount bundle.

The new chapter, called “Absolute Doom”, begins on August 16th and includes many characters, including Gwenpool, War Machine, Peelverine, Emma Frost, Captain Jonesy, Mysterio, Shuri, and Doctor Doom.  There will also be new items like Dual Micro SMGs, Captain America’s Shield, or War Machine’s Arsenal.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Disney had invested over a billion dollars in Epic Games to create a brand new Disney experience within the game. However, it was confirmed that the new Fortnite mode is still years away.

Roger’s Take:  The new Absolute Doom chapter looks like a fun excuse to jump back into the game, and with Disney’s involvement now in Epic Games, we are likely going to continue to see more tie-ins with future Disney+ and theatrical releases in the future.
