“The Great North” Cancelled After 5 Seasons
While we’ve seen many of the long-running adult-animated shows from 20th Television, such as “Family Guy”, “Bob’s Burgers” and “The Simpsons” renewed for more seasons, unfortunately, “The Great North” hasn’t been able to secure a new season.
The show follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family, as a single dad, Beef, does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close – especially his only daughter, Judy, whose artistic dreams lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall. Rounding out the family are Judy’s older brother, Wolf, and his fiancé, Honeybee, her middle brother, Ham, and ten-year-old-going-on-fifty little brother, Moon. While their mother is not in the picture, Judy seeks guidance from her new boss, Alyson, and her imaginary friend, Alanis Morissette, who appears to her in the northern lights.
In a statement on social media, the show’s director, Aimee Steinberger, confirmed the fate of the show:
Sadly we got the news today that The Great North is officially cancelled. I’m pretty sad about it. It’s one of a very small number of shows I’ve worked on that I genuinely loved and I really loved the whole talented crew I worked with. I feel lucky to have been there.
However, fans of the show shouldn’t completely give up hope, as the director also teased that animated shows have a tendency to come back.
It’s always possible! Futurama came back like 3 times
Aimee also addressed how the show should be considered a success, as it ran for five seasons:
5 seasons is definitely respectable, especially in the past few years’ economy
The previous seasons of “The Great North” are available to stream now on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally. The final episodes of the fifth season will also be released on Disney+ in the UK later this week on October 1st 2025.
