“The Chi” Creators Preparing For The Eighth Season

Just ahead of the season seven premiere of the hit drama series “The Chi”, it has been revealed by Deadline that work has already opened the writer’s room for the eighth season.

“The Chi” is a timely coming-of-age story about a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.

The show highlights how, on an average day, kids prepping for school as their parents head off to work, young adults trying to make a living, and elders keeping an eye on things from their front porches. But in this tough neighbourhood, real dangers threaten to squelch dreams daily, and the simplest decisions can have life-or-death consequences.

Paramount has yet to commission an eighth season of the show, and the deals with the cast have yet to be signed, so things could still change, but it looks like the creative team is preparing for another season.

Filming on the seventh season wrapped in late last year, and no release date for the new season has been announced, which will no doubt impact when filming may begin in the eighth season.

Created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Twenties, Master of None) under her Hillman Grad banner and executive produced by Academy Award and Emmy winner Common (Selma). 

The show is produced entirely in its namesake city by Disney’s 20th Television. While it premieres on Paramount+ With Showtime in the United States, it is also released internationally on Disney+.  The previous seasons are available to stream on Paramount+ in the United States and on Disney+ in many countries around the world.
