Disney has announced that the next Star Wars film to arrive in cinemas is “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” which will continue the adventures we’ve seen in the last three seasons of the Disney+ show.

Production on the film is set to begin soon, and Disney has confirmed that the movie will be released in cinemas on May 22nd, 2026, for the Memorial Weekend.  And with a theatrical release, we should expect the movie to arrive on Disney+ much later in the year.

“The Mandalorian and Grogu” will be directed by Jon Favreau and produced by him, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.

Last year, when the film was announced, Jon said in a statement:

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“The Mandalorian & Grogu” will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.

While we wait, the first three seasons of “The Mandalorian” are available on Disney+ and with the film now in development, it’s unlikely we will see a fourth season for a while, especially if the new movie is successful.
