During last years Investor Day event, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced a brand new series called “Rangers of the New Republic”, which is going to be set within the timeline of “The Mandalorian” and would intersect with future stories and culminate into a climactic story event.

It was also revealed that “Rangers of the New Republic” was being created by executive producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni.

When the show was originally announced, many speculated that the series would focus on the former Imperial Shocktrooper turned Rebel soldier, Cara Dune, who was played by Gina Carano in both previous seasons of “The Mandalorian”.

But following the actresses very controversial social media posts, Lucasfilm then distanced itself from Cara Dune actress, Gina Carano, stating they “there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

However, since last year’s Investors Day, there hasn’t been any further news on the “Rangers Of The New Republic” series since it was announced.  Leading many to either speculate that the series has been cancelled or the story is being tweaked to focus on different characters.

Recently, Kathleen Kennedy spoke with Empire Magazine ahead of the release of the new Disney+ series “Star Wars: The Book Of Boba Fett” and was asked about the “Rangers of the New Republic” series, which she replied:

We’d never written any script or anything on that”

When asked if the plans for the series will just be likely to be absorbed into other series, she said:

“Some of that will figure into future episodes, I’m sure, of the next season of The Mandalorian.

These comments from Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy would seem to indicate that as many have expect, “Rangers Of The New Republic” isn’t going ahead and will instead be incorporated into the next season of “The Mandalorian”, which is filming at the moment or possibly the fourth season.

What do you think of the cancellation of “Rangers Of The New Republic” ?
