Star Wars Documentaries Available On Disney+
Disney+ is home to hundreds of documentaries on a plethora of subjects. That includes “Star Wars.” In the Lucasfilm collection, Disney+ has several documentaries that look at the most successful franchise George Lucas ever produced. Some focus on the original series, while others look at the prequels, and some focus on the projects since Disney took over. Let’s take a look at some of the “Star Wars” documentaries available on Disney+.
LIGHT & MAGIC
Showcasing the people of Industrial Light and Magic, the special effects division of Lucasfilm, this series takes us back in time as they create the effects for some of the biggest and most successful films of the last 45 years.
As a big “Star Wars” fan, I love the special effects that bring the films and series to the public. Industrial Light and Magic are known around the world for their effects and the hardworking people deserve this time in the spotlight.
OBI-WAN KENOBI: A JEDI’S RETURN
A new documentary that showcases the making of the epic limited series. Features never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, and visits to the creature shop and props department.
While the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series divided fans, it was still nice to see Ewan McGregor back in the role. This documentary gives those who loved the show an excellent look at what went into bringing the limited series to Disney+.
STAR WARS GALAXY’S EDGE: ADVENTURE AWAITS
A look at the Disney attraction based on the Star Wars franchise. This is a definite fluff piece from Disney to promote its theme parks, but it’s still nice to see for those who may want to feel like they are in the land of “Star Wars” while they are in Disneyland or Walt Disney World. It’s an advertisement more than a true documentary, but it was still fun. Unfortunately, this one isn’t available in every region.
DISNEY GALLERY: STAR WARS: THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT
The behind-the-scenes story of the legendary bounty hunter’s return to the sands of Tatooine with mercenary Fennec Shand. “The Book of Boba Fett” was probably more divisive than “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” but the behind-the-scene look is still amazingly well done. I liked this better than the series, itself.
UNDER THE HELMET: THE LEGACY OF BOBA FETT
A special celebrating the origins and legacy of Star Wars’ legendary bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Truthfully, this is the best Boba Fett-centric title on Disney+. It gives a nice look at the character’s history and how he came to be, sheds light on his first appearance, and acknowledges the 1970s Holiday Special. Anything willing to bring attention to that fiasco is worth your time.
DISNEY GALLERY: THE MANDALORIAN
A behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.” Mando is still the anchor show for Disney+ and has delivered quality season upon quality season so far. The behind-the-scenes look is also a great insight into how this came to be. While the seasons vary in episode length, they still bring some added weight to the series.
EMPIRE OF DREAMS: THE STORY OF THE STAR WARS TRILOGY
An in-depth making-of documentary about the original Star Wars trilogy, covering the productions of the three films and their impact on popular culture. Admittedly, I haven’t watched this documentary yet, but it’s on my watchlist. I can’t wait to see more about the original trilogy, and I love when “Star Wars” crosses over into the rest of pop culture.
Those are the ones available in the Lucasfilm section. Which documentary will you be watching?
