“Star Wars: Andor” was one of the first projects announced for Disney+ back in 2018 and it took almost four years to hit our screens, so while filming on the second season of the Disney+ Original series, “Star Wars: Andor”, has already began in the United Kingdom just before last year’s Thanksgiving and much like the first season, it will take a while for it to arrive on our screens.

The “Andor” series – set five years before the events of Rogue One – focuses on Cassian Andor and his journey toward becoming a rebel hero. The tale is set against the backdrop of a burgeoning rebellion against a ruthless Empire, where people and planets are drawn into a conflict that will have far-reaching effects across the galaxy. It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue, and one that will test the courage and resolve of a reluctant hero determined to make a difference.

Speaking on StruggleNation’s YouTube show, Tony Gilroy, who is the showrunner of the “Andor” series, hinted at a potential release on Disney+ in late Summer or early Fall 2024.    He said:

“Well, we’re on the same schedule that we were before… So, we started shooting in November, so we’re on the same schedule we were before. So we finished last time shooting in August, so we’ll finish… we’re shooting now, we shoot all the way through August and then it takes a year for us to finish it.

He added:

“So we won’t finish it until the following June or July, it won’t be done. It takes a year to do all the visual effects, and the color correction, and the music, and the mixing, and everything else. So, I don’t know. That is the schedule we were on before. The only way… you can’t accelerate the shooting. You can throw money at the post if they wanted it to come in somewhat sooner… I have a feeling it’ll be on the same thing, but two years later.”

The first season of “Andor” dropped onto Disney+ in September 2022, so unless there are any major delays, expecting the show to arrive on the streaming platform two years later, in the fall of 2024 is probably the most likely.  The good news, is that in the meantime, we’ve got new seasons of “The Mandalorian” plus new shows, “Skeleton Crew” and “Ahsoka” to keep us entertained.

In the show, Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, Forest Whitaker and Andy Serkis. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.

The first season of “Andor”, along with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” are available to stream now on Disney+.
