Sope Aluko To Star ABC’s “Bammas” Pilot
ABC Signature Studios is currently developing a new pilot called “Bammas”, which is being written, executive produced by and starring Opeyemi “Opey” Olagbaju & Biniam Bizuneh.
In “Bammas”, a pair of young Ethiopian- and Nigerian-American best friends (Olagbaju, Bizuneh) struggle to overcome their loser reputations in a magical realist version of Washington, D.C.
According to Deadline, Sope Aluko has joined the project and will play Tolu, a doting mother and devout Christian who is very protective of her two kids. She is focused on her children achieving the American dream she and her late husband had hoped for them by emigrating.
She has previously starred as Shaman in Marvel’s “Black Panther” and Sony’s “Venom”.
Also, executive producing the pilot Danny Chun, who will be the showrunner, having previously creator on “Grandfathered” and Jonathan Krisel, who co-created “Baskets”, he will also be directing the pilot. Ramy Yossef will also be an executive producer on the show through his Cairo Cowboy Banner, along with Andy Campagna overseeing the project.
Hulu has ordered the pilot and should the pilot be turned into a series, we should also expect the series to be released as a Star Original internationally on Disney+.
