With the return of “Doctor Who” coming later this year, the BBC has announced that Christopher Chung will be starring in the upcoming new season, opposite Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his new companion, Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu).

The series sees The Doctor and his companion travel across time and space, with adventures all the way from the Regency era in England to war-torn future worlds. Throughout their adventures in the TARDIS – a time-travelling ship shaped like a police box – they encounter incredible friends and dangerous foes.

Christopher Chung is best known for his role as MI5 agent Roddy in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses. In his career across TV, film, and theatre, Christopher has also starred in Blitz and the West End show Heathers: The Musical.

It’s not been revealed who Christopher will be playing, but the BBC did tease fans by asking if his character be an ally or an enemy of the Doctor?

Russell T Davies, Showrunner, said in a statement regarding the casting:

“I’m a huge fan of Slow Horses, and I was so excited to get Chris involved. He brings all of his strength and style and talent to one of the darkest, toughest episodes we’ve ever made. As for whether Cassio is an ally or an enemy of the Doctor, you’ll have to wait and see, but I can promise, it’s one hell of a meeting!”

Christopher Chung added:

“I’m absolutely thrilled to step into the Whoniverse as Cassio for Season 2! This show is legendary, and getting to be part of this new era feels surreal. Working with Russell and Ncuti has been a dream! This episode is huge – packed with everything Who fans love: heart, adventure, and a touch of madness. I can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store – it’s going to be iconic. Get ready!”

The series is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television, and will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK, and exclusively on Disney+ outside of the UK where available.

The first season of “Doctor Who”, along with the 60th Anniversary and recent Christmas specials are also available to stream on the BBC iPlayer in the UK and on Disney+ around the world.
