Disney’s Freeform has revealed that “Single Drunk Female” will not return for a third season and has been cancelled after two seasons.  No reason for the cancellation has been announced, but Disney is cutting back on the amount of general entertainment content it is creating, in an effort to save around $5 billion dollars.

The series follows 20-something alcoholic Samantha Fink, who, after a public flame-out at a New York media company, is forced to seize the only chance she has to sober up and avoid jail time: moving back home with her overbearing mother, Carol. Back in Greater Boston, Samantha restarts her life, working at the local grocery store while surrounded by all of the triggers that made her drink in the first place. Confronted with remnants of her old life, including run-ins with her perfect former best friend, who is now dating her ex, Samantha sets out on a path to move past her worst self and figure out her best self. Kinda.

“Single Drunk Female” stars Sofia Black-D’Elia, Ally Sheedy, Rebecca Henderson, Sasha Compère, Lily Mae Harrington and Garrick Bernard. The series comes from 20th Television and is created by Simone Finch (“The Connors”), who executive produces along with Jenni Konner (“Girls,” “Camping”), Daisy Gardner (“Silicon Valley,” “The Goldbergs”), Phil Traill (“Good Girls”), Nora Silver and Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”).

The series was released on Freeform and Hulu in the United States, while internationally, it was released as a Star Original on Star+ in Latin America and on Disney+ around the world.  Both previous seasons are still currently available to watch on those streaming platforms.   With the current climate regarding streaming services and cancelled shows, if you are currently in the middle of watching the latest season, I’d suggest watching those remaining episodes as quickly as possible, since cancelled shows are often being removed from streaming services.

UPDATE:  Within hours of the reveal that this show had been cancelled, it was quickly removed from Disney’s streaming services around the world, including Disney+, Star+ and Hulu.  Disney had been planning on removing about $400 million dollars worth of content before the end of June as part of an impairment charge, which basically means the show is written off as a tax write-off.  Disney also cut over $1.5 billion dollars worth of content including “Willow” in May.
