Development on the third Marvel “Deadpool” film is starting to step up as according to The Hollywood Reporter, Shawn Levy will be directing the third “Deadpool” film, having previously worked with Ryan Reynolds on the hugely successful, 20th Century Studios film, “Free Guy” and this week’s biggest new release on Netflix, “The Adam Project”.

The film series is based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, who is a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who, after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool.

Shawn Levy is also a producer on the upcoming Disney+ Original films, “Cheaper by the Dozen”, “Crater”, and “Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again”, plus the Hulu/Star Originals, “The Boogeyman” and “Rosaline”.

The news was backed up by Ryan Reynolds, who tweeted out,

The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby.

Shawn Levy also tweeted some fanart recreating Deadpool in a Free Guy poster:

When Disney purchased 20th Century Studios, then Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Deadpool would be integrated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe under Disney, and the character’s films could remain R-rated “as long as we let the audiences know what’s coming”.

“Deadpool 3” will be written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the scripts for the first two films.  Along with “Bob’s Burgers”, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin.

Disney hasn’t announced a release date for the third “Deadpool” film.

“Free Guy” is available to watch now on Disney+, and both “Deadpool” films are also available on Disney+ in many countries, including the UK, Canada and Australia.
