The big final instalment in the Multiverse Saga will be “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which will conclude the fourth, fifth, and sixth phases.   This movie was initially announced back at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, but with the pandemic, Hollywood strikes and a major studio slowdown, the release date has been bumped back, currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on May 7th 2024.

According to a new report from THR, Marvel is looking to hand the directors chair to Shawn Levy, who is the director of the upcoming “Deadpool & Wolverine” film.  He’s also previously worked on “Stranger Things”, “Free Guy” and “Night At The Museum”.

This is still in the early stages, with Marvel and Shawn apparently in discussions about the project, with the latest script being given to the director late last week.  However, it should be noted that there are some other directors still in the mix, and no decision has been made.

Apparently, Shawn was offered the role earlier this year, but had to turn it down due to scheduling with finishing up “Deadpool & Wolverine” and he will also be directing two episodes of the final season of “Stranger Things” plus other projects, but with the filming of the next “Avengers” movie being bumped back, there is now a “window of opportunity”.

Marvel is also working on another Avengers movie, which is due to be released a year before “Secret Wars”, which was previously called “Avengers: Kang Dynasty”, but with all the issues with Jonathan Major’s conviction, there have been many changes, including Michael Waldron, who wrote “Loki”, coming on board to write the script and Destin Daniel Cretton also stepped away from the directing duties.

Roger’s Take:  Without seeing “Deadpool & Wolverine”, it’s hard for us to see if Shawn is the best person for the job, but I have previously enjoyed so many of the projects he’s worked on, that I’m certainly happy to see him take up the directors chair.  “Avengers: Secret Wars” is going to be a major star-studded film with likely dozens of superheroes from across the different multiverses coming together to save everyone.

Do you think Shawn Levy should direct “Avengers: Secret Wars”?  Let me know on social media!
