Sarah Michelle Gellar Gives Update On “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” Revival
Disney is currently in the early stages of development of a revival of the popular series, “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” for Hulu and Disney+.
20th Television and Searchlight TV are behind the series, which follows the adventures of Buffy Summers, a teenage girl who is gifted with the strength and skill to hunt vampires
The new series will continue the story, with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning as the Vampire hunter, along with a brand new vampire slayer, who will be played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who recently starred in the Disney+ Original series, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”.
Sarah Michelle Gellar has shared an update on social media, giving us a sneak peek at the behind the scenes of the making of the pilot, with a photo of the table read of the pilot with the rest of the cast.
She also posted a photo featuring a Buffy action figure, along with the pilot script; however, the title of the upcoming revival series has been blacked out.
This new follow-on series will be directed by Chloé Zhao, who previously directed the Oscar-winning “Nomadland” and the Marvel film “Eternals.” Chloé has a first-look deal with Searchlight. The pilot will be written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, who previously worked on “Poker Face.”
“Buffy The Vampire Slayer” debuted in 1992 with a film starring Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, and Luke Perry. It returned in 1997 with a TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan, which ran for seven seasons. The original series is available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ internationally, along with the original film.
Should Disney decide to continue with the project once the pilot has been created, hopefully, it won’t be too long until it arrives on Hulu and Disney+.
