Sarah Jessica Parker Gives An Update On Disney’s “Hocus Pocus 3”

Shortly after the release of “Hocus Pocus 2″ on Disney+ in 2022, it was revealed that Disney was working on a third instalment in the iconic Halloween franchise, which stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters.

The original film was released in 1993 and told the story of three witches who are resurrected after 300 years to exact revenge and begin a reign of terror after Max, a young boy who moves to Salem with his family, lights the cursed Candle of Black Flame.

Back in 2023, the President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, Sean Bailey, confirmed that a third film was in development with Anne Fletcher set to return to direct and Jen D’Angelo returning to write the sequel.

Then last year, Bette Midler revealed that she hasn’t seen a script but had “heard rumblings” about another sequel.

Since then, there haven’t been many updates on the upcoming film, but recently, on an appearance on the latest episode of Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live!”, Sarah Jessica Parker was asked by a member of the audience about the potential third film.

“No more developments other than we would like to do it. We’ve been having some conversations.”

Roger’s Take:  Over the past decade, Disney has continued to keep putting itself into the position of giving away information about movies or shows in the early stages of development way too early.  Which then results in fans becoming disillusioned, as they hear about upcoming projects years before they are ever going to see them, if they are even made.  “Hocus Pocus 2” was a huge success on Disney+, and a third movie will likely be given a theatrical release, given how Disney’s strategy has shifted since the sequel was released.  It does sound like a third “Hocus Pocus” film hasn’t moved along too much in terms of development, but they’ll have to get a wriggle on, as Bette will be eighty years old in December, so the window of opportunity is closing on them making another instalment in the franchise.

While we wait for a third “Hocus Pocus” film, you can find both of the previous films on Disney+ now.
