Ryan Gosling In Talks To Star In Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Movie
Back in 2022, it was revealed that Shawn Levy was developing a new Star Wars film for Lucasfilm, but since then, we’ve not heard too much about the project, since Shawn was busy working on the hugely successful Marvel film, “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
Shawn has been working with Jonathan Tropper on the project for the past couple of years, the pair have previously worked together on “The Adam Project” and “This Is Where I Leave You”. Shawn is also going to be producing the film under his 21 Laps banner, along with Kathleen Kennedy.
Currently, this untitled Star Wars film is scheduled to be released in cinemas on December 17th 2027, though things could change very easily, as we’ve seen many other Star Wars films over the past few years.
According to THR, Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the upcoming Star Wars movie, following his recent box office success with “Barbie”, along with other well-known movies such as “La La Land”, “The Notebook” and “The Fall Guy”.
No plot details for the upcoming film have been revealed, though its expected that this will be a stand-alone movie and not connected to the events of the Skywalker saga of Episodes 1 through 9.
Production on Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film is reported to begin this fall. The upcoming Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo later this year might be the place where we get an update on the movie.
Following the recent release of “Skeleton Crew” on Disney+, the next big new release will be the second season of “Andor: A Star Wars Story” in April 2025, and the next big theatrical release for Star Wars is “The Mandalorian & Grogu” on May 22nd 2026.
We’ve seen Lucasfilm refocus its efforts on theatrical releases following a major shakeup with Disney, as it moves away from creating expensive Star Wars shows for Disney+, that haven’t performed as well as the studio would like, which is why the fourth season of “The Mandalorian” was transformed into the upcoming Mando movie.
Roger’s Take: This is going to be an interesting movie for Ryan, as there are risks getting involved with such a huge franchise, but he is also likely going to be looking to add some major payday films to his schedule to allow him to do other projects. While we’ve seen so many Star Wars films stuck in development purgatory, with Lucasfilm refocusing on theatrical releases and on fewer Disney+ projects, I do think this movie is going to happen and Ryan would be a great choice to lead the film.
