One of Disney’s most controversial live-action remakes is the upcoming “Snow White.” This musical reimagining of the classic 1937 film will take audiences back into the magical world of Snow White with beloved songs and recognizable characters such as the Evil Queen, Dopey, Grumpy, Sneezy, Bashful, Happy, Sleepy, and Doc.

The film caught the attention of many people online following rumours of changes to the classic story, such as not including any Dwarfs. Also, clips of the film’s star, Rachel Zegler, went viral over multiple issues, such as going on strike and how the new film was very different from the original, especially the love story elements.

Originally, the film had been scheduled to be released in cinemas in March 2024, but the film was delayed a whole year to March 21st 2025, as Disney did some reshoots, which is common for most films, though there has been speculation that Disney has been making some major changes to the film to be more inline with the original animated film following the negative feedback from audiences when some set photos were revealed two years ago.

The film has also been criticized by “Game of Thrones” actor Peter Dinklage, who has questioned how the film will portray dwarf characters.

When Disney announced that the film had been delayed by a year, it released an image showing Snow White with the dwarfs, which was done to silence critics that the classic dwarf characters had been replaced by magical bandits.     Initial filming was due to begin in 2020 but was delayed due to the pandemic and eventually began in March 2022, where it continued until July 2022.

This week, Rachel Zegler has taken to social media to confirm that she has recently wrapped filming on the reshoots in London, with a photo from the set, but without giving anything away!

that’s a wrap on snow white and i so freakin proud and emotional. i love these people so much.

The upcoming film is directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), produced by Marc Platt (The Little Mermaid) and includes original songs from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (The Greatest Showman).

Roger’s Take:  Disney is in a tricky situation with “Snow White” as audiences have become weary of all of the live-action remakes. This film has caught the attention of many Disney critics, who believe the film represents how “woke” the company has become.  Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has addressed that the company needs to be less political and focus more on a story, than a message, and it with such a big delay in “Snow White’s” release, I do believe that that extra time has been spent on making it closer to the original film and less controversial, to try to recover this project from being a disaster, but the big question is has the bad publicity already damaged this film’s potential box office success.

You can watch the original animated film, “Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs” on Disney+ now.
