Disney has had great success making live-action remakes of its classic animated movies, such as “The Lion King,” “Aladdin,” and “Alice In Wonderland.”

In some ways, Disney had so much success with this format, that it went a little bit crazy and started making live-action remakes of most of its movies, many of which had box office success, but over the last few years, with Disney overdoing this genre with too many, the box office results have slowly been reducing. Though it’s still hoping “Moana”, “Snow White”, and “Lilo & Stitch” do well.

While Disney has been remaking its movies from the Walt Disney Animation Studios back catalogue, it hasn’t yet begun adapting Pixar films into live-action.

And it doesn’t look like that’s going to be happening anytime soon, as during a recent Time interview with Pete Docter, Chief Creative Officer at Pixar Animation Studios, to promote “Inside Out 2”, the idea of a live-action version of “Ratatouilee” was shot down.

No, and this might bite me in the butt for saying it, but it sort of bothers me. I like making movies that are original and unique to themselves. To remake it, it’s not very interesting to me personally.

And he went on to explain why it wouldn’t work:

It would be tough. So much of what we create only works because of the rules of the [animated] world. So if you have a human walk into a house that floats, your mind goes, “Wait a second. Hold on. Houses are super heavy. How are balloons lifting the house?” But if you have a cartoon guy and he stands there in the house, you go, “Okay, I’ll buy it.” The worlds that we’ve built just don’t translate very easily.

Roger’s Take: I’ve always been surprised that Disney hasn’t tried doing a live-action Pixar film already, especially after doing them for over a decade, but I also feel these remakes just aren’t really necessary and feel like cheap cash grab. I hope they never try to do a live-action remake and, in all honestly, wish Disney just put the whole concept on the shelf instead of focusing on making excellent new live-action movies and fantastic new animated films instead of taking a shortcut.
