Studio 4C has announced that the brand new Japanese anime series, “Phoenix: Eden17”, will be coming out globally on September 13th 2023, on Disney+ around the world. It’s likely that, as with other anime shows like “Bleach: A Thousand-Year Blood War”, “Tokyo Revengers”, and “Synduality: Noir”, that the show will be released on Hulu in the US and Star+ in Latin America.

The brand new anime series follows a woman called Romi and her partner, as they depart from the devastated Earth and head for a new life on the planet Eden17. However, life has already been made extinct on the new world, so Romi finds herself eking out an even harsher life there. The show is an adaptation of the Nostalgia story of Tezuka Osamu‘s life work “Phoenix”.

The cast for the upcoming anime has been announced, which includes:

  • Honoka Yoshida as Com
  • Yosuke Kubozuka as George
  • Rie Miyazawa as Romi
  • Issey Ogata as Sudarban

“Phoenix: Eden17” has been written by Katsunari Mano (Death Note Light up the NEW world) and Saku Konohana (Children of the Sea).   It was also announced that Shôjirô Nishimi would be directing the show.  He has previously worked on “Mutafukaz ” and “Batman: Gotham Knight”.    It was also revealed that Tatsuzou Nishida is the chief animation director, and Shinji Kimura is the art director.  Along with revealing that Akiko Saito is the technical line director and CGI director, with Kengo Shigemura editing the series and Eiko Tanaka as the producer.

It was also announced that a special film version of the anime called “Phoenix: Reminiscence of Flower (Hi no Tori: Eden no Hana” will be released in cinemas in Japan on November 3rd 2023.   This film version will have a different ending, and a new teaser trailer and poster have been released for this version.
