Olaf Presents – Disney+ Review
Frozen fans can get a little top up of Olaf this Disney+ Day, when five new shorts featuring everyone’s favourite snowman arrive on the streaming platform.
“Olaf Presents” takes a moment from “Frozen 2” where Olaf recreates the entire first movie in quick recap and applies the same format to multiple classic Disney animated films, including “Tangled”, “The Lion King”, “Aladdin”, “The Little Mermaid” and “Moana”.
Josh Gad returns to provide the voices for the shorts and has a lot of fun recreating some of the most significant moments from those films (maybe having a little too much fun).
Each short is about 90 seconds long, and that works pretty well for these shorts. They get straight to the point, and there are some fantastic little oneliners in there to make you laugh, especially older viewers. Trying to recap any of these movies in that amount of time would be hard enough, but “Olaf Presents” does it in such a fun way, that it’s hard to not to smile when watching it.
The pace of these shorts is incredibly fast. If you blink or get distracted, you’ll miss it, especially as the editing is so quick and clean. Olaf is also able to throw in some odd jokes here and there, highlighting how some of the things in these movies haven’t dated so well—but doing it in a way to make you laugh.
Kids are going to love this series of shorts. They are a nice little nugget sized bite of Olaf, with a few little cameos thrown in for good measure.
One of the exciting things about this series of shorts, is that it has so much more scope to become a regular mini-series of shorts, with the entire catalogue of Disney animated films, plus other movies from Disney’s catalogue like Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar. This simple idea could spawn many more shorts.
Overall, if you love Olaf, you’ll love “Olaf Presents”. It’s simple but effective. I enjoyed them, and because they are so short, what more can you ask for if you get a giggle or two out of them. I honestly don’t have anything negative I can say about this series.
Rating – 4 out of 5
