Today, during a special presentation at the Series Mania event in Lille, France, Disney announced a brand new Spanish documentary series called “Lucrecia: A Murder In Madrid”, also known as “Lucrecia: Un Crimen De Odio”.

This new original documentary tells the true story of the murder of a black woman called Lucrecia Pérezs, who was shot in the debris of a nightclub in Madrid in 1992, which shocked the Spanish population and provoked an unprecedented response, as it was later classified as Spain’s first officially recognized hate crime.

The series has been written and executive produced by Justin Webster (“The Pioneer”, “Muerte en Leon”), alongside Sumpta Ayuso (“Mad Madrid Connection”). “Lucrecia: A Murder In Madrid” was written and directed by David Cabrera (“Six Dreams”, “The Pioneer”) and Garbion Armentia (“Muerte en Leon”, “Six Dreams”).

This is the latest original series to come out of Disney’s EMEA division, as it looks to boost its original programming, to help keep local subscribers engaged and also comply with local quota rules.
