Disney has released a trailer for the upcoming original short film, “Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó”, which will be released on Disney+ on February 9th 2024.

“Nǎi Nai and Wài Pó” is a personal love letter from first-generation Taiwanese-American director Sean Wang to his Nǎi Nai and Wài Pó (Grandma & Grandma).  This multigenerational story follows this grandma super team that dances, stretches and farts their sorrows away.

Earlier this week, the short was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Documentary Short Film category.  This short doc premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award.

This will be the first instalment of the “People & Places” relaunch, Walt Disney’s Academy Award-winning documentary short film series from the 1950s and 1960s.  This short is 17 minutes long

The short has been directed and produced by Taiwanese American filmmaker Sean Wang.  Also serving as producers are Sam Davis ( “Period. End of Sentence”) and Malcolm Pullinger. Joanna Natasegara (“The White Helmets”) served as an executive producer
