Marvel’s “What If?” To End After Three Seasons
During a Marvel Animation panel at the D23: Ultimate Fan Experience, it was confirmed that the third season of the hit animated series, “What If?” would be the final season.
Marvel Studios’ “What If…?” flips the script on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways. Creating a multiverse of infinite possibilities, with many of the stars from the shows and films returning to reprise their iconic roles.
In the first season, fan-favourite characters, including Peggy Carter, T’Challa, Doctor Strange, Killmonger, Thor and more, were involved in new, unique stories, which saw them all intertwine into one big “Avengers” storyline against Doctor Strange.
In the second season, The Watcher continued to guide viewers through the vast multiverse, introducing brand new and familiar faces throughout the MCU. Fan-favourite characters this season, like Nebula, Hela and Happy Hogan, were the focus of stories in the second season.
Last Christmas, Disney released a new teaser clip from one of the upcoming episodes from the third season, which sees Red Guardian and the Winter Soldier going on a road trip. Other upcoming storylines include an episode featuring an Avengers team-up of Captain America, Moon Knight, Monica Rambeau, Moon Knight, Shang Chi, and Red Guardians, who have to come together to fight monsters in power armour suits. Other characters appearing in this final season include White Vision and Ironheart.
No release date for the third season of “What If?” has been announced yet.
Roger’s Take: It’s not a huge surprise to hear “What If?” is coming to an end after three seasons, as with the Multiverse coming to a close with the “Avengers: Secret Wars” movie, plus no doubt, this show is much more expensive to make due to the involvement of the Hollywood stars. I’ve really enjoyed this show and feel like it’s a show that continues forever. However, I do think Disney needs to cut back on its Multiverse stories.
