Marvel’s “Spider-Noir” Trailer Released

Sony continues to build out its “Spider-Verse” with a brand new live-action series called “Spider-Noir”, which is a spin-off from the “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” animated film, which will see Nicholas Cage return to the role of Ben Reilly.

This new series is based on Marvel Comics’ “Spider-Man Noir” and tells the story of Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York. The burnt-out private eye is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.

Also starring in this new series are Emmy Award-winning actor Lamorne Morris, portraying journalist Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li’s Cat Hardy, a nightclub songstress and femme fatale, and Karen Rodriguez, who plays Ben Reilly’s assistant detective, Janet.

“Spider-Noir” was developed with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Emmy Award-winning director Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag) directed and executive produced the first two episodes, with Oren Uziel (The Lost City) and Steve Lightfoot (Marvel’s The Punisher) serving as the series’ co-showrunners and executive producers.

Much like Marvel’s “Werewolf By Night”, this new series will be released in two different versions, in colour and also in a classic black and white version.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video, “Spider-Noir” will be available in both black and white and colour. The highly anticipated series will debut domestically in the U.S. on MGM+’s linear channel, followed by a global release on Prime Video the next day in more than 240 countries and territories on May 27th 2026.

Roger’s Take: While no doubt, most Marvel fans would have preferred Sony to have partnered with Disney+ for this release, it’s coming to Amazon Prime Video around the world, so it requires an additional subscription.  Sony has desperately tried to find some success with its live-action films like “Madame Web” and “Morbius”, which didn’t perform as well, so they shifted the focus to TV shows, but will the audience check out this new “Spider-Verse” show?  I think there will be some interest in this show, especially with it starring Nicholas Cage and that one scene in the trailer showing him swinging from building to building, but with a TV show, if it doesn’t grab the audience in that first episode, they might not return.
