Marvel’s Kevin Feige Teases How “Picard” Inspired New “Vision Quest” Disney+ Series
Later this year, Marvel Studios is set to begin production on a brand new series for Disney+ called “Vision Quest”, which is going to be a follow-on from the Disney+ series, “WandaVision” and will pick up the story of what happened after White Vision left Westview.
In the finale of “WandaVision”, two different versions of Vision did battle, with Wanda’s version of Vision restoring the memories in the “Ghost” White version of Vision, resulting in the character flying off, before Wanda’s Vision faded away.
The new series will see Paul Bettany return as Vision, and Terry Matalas will be the new showrunner for the Disney+ series, having previously worked on the Amazon series, “Star Trek: Picard”. Originally, “WandaVision” showrunner Jac Schaeffer was going to be the head creator on the new series, but has been working on other projects for Marvel, including “Agatha All Along”.
Recently, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige spoke with Inverse to promote the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, where he revealed that he specifically sought out Matalas to work for Marvel because he loved the third season of “Picard” so much.
“That’s how I got to know him. It was from his amazing [work on Picard Season 3. I said: This is incredible. I don’t know how this exists. Let me find the person who made this.”
These comments don’t necessarily mean “Vision Quest” will be like the third season of “Picard”, but Kevin Feige obviously liked what he saw, which isn’t a huge surprise since the third season has had plenty of critical acclaim.
With “WandaVision” and “Agatha All Along”, it seems Marvel has decided that this side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to be focused on Disney+, with each series likely slightly interconnected.
Casting is currently underway on the show, and while very little is known about the upcoming “Vision Quest”, such as what the plot will be, or who will be starring in it, but it’s expected we will see Billy Maximoff, aka Billy Kaplan, aka Wiccan, star in the new series, since he will be reintroduced in the upcoming “Agatha All Along” series. Billy Maximoff debuted in “WandaVision” and is the son of Vision and Wanda, but sadly vanished at the end of the series. In the upcoming “Agatha All Along” series, we will no doubt see how Wiccan will be reintroduced as a reincarnated version of Billy Maximoff.
Roger’s Take: With Disney hosting a special Disney Entertainment Showcase at the D23: Ultimate Fan Event on August 9th 2024, and with Kevin Feige now openly talking about “Vision Quest”, it’s likely this show could be officially revealed and given the “logo” treatment and for it to be confirmed it’s coming to Disney+ in 2026.
