On Tuesday, during a trial in New York, actor Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari.  A six-person jury verdict was made after three days of deliberations and Majors could face up to a year in jail with a sentencing date set for February 6th, 2024.

Jonathan Majors was arrested on March 25th 2023, on assault and harassment charges after Grace Jabbari accused the actor of assaulting her in the backseat of a private car after she took his phone to read a text message he’d received from another woman, resulting in an injury to her right middle finger and being hit on the back of her head, while trying to force her back into the car and causing a cut behind her right ear.

The actor plays Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who was going to be the main villain for the Multiverse Saga and for the next two Avengers movies, “Kang Dynasty” and “Secret Wars”.   Following Jonathan’s arrest, there has been a huge question mark over the actor’s future.

During the promotion of the second season of “Loki” and the home video release of “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania”, Disney actively tried to avoid promoting Jonathan Majors in advertising and reduced how much time the actor was used in the behind-the-scenes “Assembled” specials.

Following the announcement of the verdict, Marvel has confirmed that they will no longer be working with Jonathan Majors.

It’s not yet been announced if Marvel is going to recast the role of Kang, as it has done with some other characters like Thunderbolt Ross and James Rhodes, aka War Machine.  Or if it will simply push the character to the side and move in a different direction creatively for the next two “Avengers” movies.  It will also depend on if another actor would want to take on the role of Kang.

Many fans also believe that the season two finale of “Loki” marked the closing of the chapter for Kang, as the TVA was tracking down Kang’s variants, but the Kang storyline does offer Marvel the advantage of using the multiverse and variants to fix the situation from their point of view.

This also leaves a question mark over the release of the Searchlight Pictures’ “Magazine Dreams”, which was originally supposed to come out this year, but got delayed indefinitely following the actor’s arrest.   Disney may look to try to sell the film to another distributor or just write the entire project off.
