“Lost” Showrunner Developing New “Star Wars” Series For Disney+
This past weekend, Disney held a three-day event in Japan to celebrate Star Wars. Lucasfilm announced multiple new Disney+ animated shows and a brand new movie called “Star Wars: Starfighter.”
There was plenty of discussion from Lucasfilm about the upcoming second seasons of “Andor” and “Ahsoka”, but no news on any upcoming live-action series. “Andor” season two is set to hit Disney+ later this week and the second season of “Ahsoka” is beginning production later this week for a 2026 release.
However, today, THR has revealed that Lucasfilm is developing a brand new series for Disney+ from Carlton Cuse, who was the showrunner for ABC’s hit show, “Lost”, along with the FX series “The Strain”, Amazon’s “Jack Ryan” and Netflix’s “Pulse”. Also working on the project is his son Nick Cuse, who has previously worked on “Masters of the Air” and “Watchmen”.
The project is still in the early stages of development, and no details on the show, such as who might star in it, when it might be released, or what it will be about, have been revealed.
Roger’s Take: Disney has been making some major changes to how it approaches Star Wars projects, having overloaded fans with too many shows over the past few years, its been returning to refocusing on theatrical releases, along with continuing to keep die-hard fans happy with animated offerings.
We’ve not heard of any new Star Wars shows for Disney+ for some time, as it scales back its plans to focus on quality over quantity. Disney has also been burned in the past by announcing too many projects too early in development, resulting in some of them never happening, and this has damaged its credibility with many Star Wars fans. So it’s important to note that there is a reason this project wasn’t announced at Star Wars Celebration, because it’s still very much in the early stages and not ready to be officially revealed, since it could still fall apart or never move forward.
