Disney has been developing a sequel to the hit comedy film, “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion”, which will see Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow return in the title roles.

The movie was originally released in 1997 by Disney’s Touchstone Pictures and tells the story of two carefree party girls who reinvent themselves for their 10-year high school reunion. With new wardrobes and wild stories of success, they make a big impression … until a former classmate blabs their real story to everyone! But that’s when Romy and Michele let loose with a surprise of their own … and outrageous results!

Late last year,  Mira Sorvino talked about returning for the sequel, confirming that the project was moving forward but that it was “not officially greenlit” but that they are looking at shooting the sequel in the second quarter of 2025.

“Almost every single character from the original that was important is coming back….This is all pending, them making deals, them saying yes, but they’re all in there,”

During a recent interview on “The Drew Barrymore Show” to promote her Netflix series, “No Good Deed”, Lisa Kudrow provided an update on the new film.

“We’re as close as we’ve ever been.  There’s a script that’s really good, Robin Schiff wrote it”

When Drew expressed her love of the firm film, Kudrow also put a little asterisk on the project, as it still might not be a done thing just yet.

“So it’ll happen, I mean, we’ll see.”

It’s unclear if this project will get a theatrical release or if it will be a straight-to-streaming title, but in the meantime, “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” is available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ in many countries around the world.

Roger’s Take:  Disney loves making sequels and it’s probably been long enough to make another High School Reunion as enough time has gone by that things have changed, but it still sounds like this film isn’t necessarily officially happening just yet and the project could still fall apart or get delayed again.
