Last year, Disney made an agreement with Lionsgate in 2022 following a legal battle throughout Latin America over a dispute over the Starz brand following the launch of Star+ throughout the region.  The agreement included offering a bundle which included Disney+, Star+ and StarzPlay, which launched last summer, but required three separate apps.

Star+ is home to live sports, iconic movies, animated comedies, local productions and original series across many Latin American countries.  It basically a hybrid between Hulu and ESPN+.

Since last summer, StarzPlay was rebranded to Lionsgate+, and from today, Lionsgate+ is now available through Star+ in a number of countries across Latin America including:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Ecuador
  • Mexico
  • Peru

Lionsgate+ delivers a deep library of entertainment told from fresh perspectives. Stream or download bold original series like “Pennyworth”.    This will be similar to how Lionsgate+ is offered through other streaming platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Hulu.

If you are already a subscriber to the triple combo bundle, you’ll have access to Lionsgate+ content within Star+, or you can now upgrade to the bundle to get full access to everything.  As with other streaming services, the availability of Lionsgate content will vary between countries.

While it’s possibly a little disappointing for many fans in Latin America, who want Star+ and Disney+ to merge together, having access to the Lionsgate+ content within Star+ will no doubt be much easier for those people with the triple bundle, which is likely part of an agreement about the branding of Star in Latin America.
