20th Television is developing a new single-camera comedy pilot called “Josep”, which follows the comedian, Jo Koy, who is best known for his appearances on “Chelsea Lately” and a Netflix standup special “In His Elements”, as a recently divorced Filipino American nurse attempting to navigate dating, fatherhood and a very Filipino mother who loves to “help.”

Deadline has revealed that Kimee Balmilero, Tess Paras and Jason Rogel have joined the project.

Kimee Balmilero will be playing Geraldine. Wearing hipster glasses and pink highlights, Geri is Jo’s married sister. She runs a Filipino restaurant with her husband Seth (who is white but adores Filipino culture), and she’s a relentless self-promoter. Geri and Jo are locked in a lifelong battle to be Lorna’s favorite.  She has previously starred in “Hawaii Five-O” and “Doogie Kamealoha MD”.

While Tess Paras will play Cheryl, who is Jo’s newly-divorced ex-wife, the mother of their son, Miles, and a goal-oriented attorney. Cheryl is determined to remain friends with Jo, and appears to be having an easier transition to a single lifestyle than Jo is. In fact, Cheryl pitches in and helps him deal with Lorna.  Tess has previously starred in “Girl Meets World”, “The Blackout” and “Lucifer”.

And Jason Rogel will be playing the part of Will Lee. A pharmacist with an impish smile and Jo’s best friend since high school, Will regards all social occasions as potential mating opportunities.   Jason has previously starred in “Raven’s Home” and “Bosch”.

Also starring in “Josep” are Mia Katigbak, Rory O’Malley and Kaden Alejandro.

It is being created by Steve Joe, who is a co-executive producer on the Disney+ Original, “Doogie Kamealoha MD”. Along with “Fresh Off The Boat’s” Randall Park and Michael Golamco, who are also executive producers and are writing the half-hour comedy.

Other executive producers include Kourtney Kang, Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, Hieu Ho. Jo Koy and his manager Joe Meloche, will also be executive producers on the comedy series.

ABC has ordered a pilot for the show and should it be well received, then it would then be made into a series. Which will air on ABC and also be available to stream on Hulu in the US, with an international release on Disney+ as a Star Original.
