Jon Watts Steps Away From Directing Marvel Studios “Fantastic Four” Film
Back at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, Marvel Studios President announced that it was developing a brand “Fantastic Four” film and that Jon Watts would be directing the film.
Since then, there hasn’t been much news on the film, since Jon Watts has been working on another Marvel Studios project, “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, but sadly its been revealed by Deadline that Jon Watts has withdrawn himself from the project.
Jon Watts is stepping away from the film because he needs a break from creating superhero films after directing all three “Spider-Man” home films for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and co-president, Louis D’Esposito, said in a statement:
“Collaborating with Jon on the Spider-Man films has been a true pleasure. We were looking forward to continuing our work with him to bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU but understand and are supportive of his reasons for stepping away. We are optimistic that we will have the opportunity to work together again at some point down the road.”
While Jon Watts also said in a statement:
“Making three Spider-Man films was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I’m eternally grateful to have been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for seven years. I’m hopeful we’ll work together again and I can’t wait to see the amazing vision for Fantastic Four brought to life.”
Sony Pictures producers have previously said that they want Jon Watts to return for future “Spider-Man” films, but it sounds like that might be happening later.
Jon Watts is also currently working on another film with Apple Studios with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
