American High is developing a brand-new film for Disney called “Summer Of 69”, which is about an awkward high school senior who hires an exotic dancer to help seduce her longtime crush before graduation, leading to unexpected friendship and lessons in self-confidence, acceptance, and adulthood.

The new film is going to be directed by Jillian Bell, who is making her directorial debut.  The actress has previously starred in “Brittany Runs a Marathon” and the Disney+ Original film, “Godmothered”.  She said in a statement regarding the news:

“It’s always been my dream to direct and I am thrilled to be telling a story about female friendship with a cast of the most talented and funny humans.”

“Summer Of 69” has been written by Liz Nico and will star Sam Morelos (That ’90s Show), Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Natalie Morales (The Morning Show), Alex Moffat (Saturday Night Live), Paula Pell (Girls5eva), Liza Koshy (A Family Affair), Nicole Byer (Nailed It!), Matt Cornett (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), Fernando Carsa (Acapulco) and Amalia Yoo (Grand Army). 

Jeremy Garelick, Will Phelps, and Molle DeBartolo will produce it, with Axelle Azoulay and Matt Sacca as associate producers. Breanna Bell-Singer, Dichotomy’s Adam Goodman and Matt Skiena, and Lucas Carter from Champagne Video will also be producers. 

Production is set to begin later this month in Syracuse, New York. Liz Nico, Jules Bryne, and Jillian Bell wrote the movie.

This will be the latest movie to be created by American High, which has a first-look deal with Hulu.  The studio is behind other movies such as “Sex Appeal”, “The Binge” and “Crush”.   These movies are all available on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ in the United States and on Disney+ around the world.
