“Inside Out 2” & “Deadpool & Wolverine” Box Office Success Boosts Disney+ Subscriptions
Today, Disney has announced its latest quarterly financial results, and it’s been confirmed that the release and huge box office success of “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine” have helped boost Disney+ this summer.
According to the companies fact sheet, they’ve stated that the lead-up to and following the theatrical release of “Inside Out 2”, millions of viewers turned to Disney+ to watch the original “Inside Ou”t film from 2015, driving over 1.3 million Disney+ sign-ups and generating over 100 million views of the original film globally since the first “Inside Out 2” teaser trailer dropped.
They also revealed that with the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, they’ve seen heightened viewership with the original Deadpool films.
Both movies have been regularly been in the top movies on the Disney+ trending list for months and “Inside Out” has also been one of the most popular films across all streaming services in June according to the Nielsen streaming chart.
Disney+ has been making the most of the success of both films in cinemas by adding banners to the homepage, promoting not just the new films, but also that the older ones are there too.
Disney is also expecting similar engagement with the upcoming releases of “Moana 2” and “Mufasa: The Lion King”.
The theatrical success of Disney’s franchises contributes to the company’s growth and improved financial performance in streaming, which should also positively impact churn and engagement.
Roger’s Take: This doesn’t come as a huge surprise based on the trending chart over the past couple of months, and I’m a prime example of someone who has gone back to watch “Inside Out” and both “Deadpool” films before heading to the cinema, plus no doubt, people have been rewatching them again after coming back from cinemas. Plus the movies are also going to be incredibly popular when they get released on Disney+ and will likely continue to be strong draws for years to come.
