Shortly after the launch of Disney+, Hulu subscribers were able to get Disney+ via a premium add-on for just $2 a month.  This add-on meant that Hulu subscribers could watch Disney+ Originals like “The Mandalorian” and “WandaVision” via the Disney+ app.

However, Disney has announced that it will discontinue this Disney+ Add-On and instead move existing customers to the Disney Bundle Duo plan at no additional cost.

Some customers who have the Disney+ Add-On are being sent an email confirming that this option is being discontinued:

The Disney+ Add-on to be Discontinued

As a Hulu (With Ads) subscriber with the Disney+ Premium Add-on, we wanted to let you know that the Disney+ Add- on will be discontinued. To avoid any disruption in your viewing experience, your Hulu subscription will automatically update to a Disney Bundle Duo plan, including continued access to both Hulu (With Ads) and Disney+ Premium on your first regularly priced billing cycle after expiration of your Hulu (With Ads) promotion. There will be no increase in your non-promotional monthly subscription fees as a result of this update.

As always, it’s easy to add or remove services by switching between our subscription plans. Explore all of our plan options to find the one that best fits your viewing needs, or to cancel, visit your Account page.
We are always here to help. For any questions, please visit our Help Center for more information.

Thanks for watching,

However, some customers who have a very cheap Hulu plan, either a Black Friday or a Student deal, where Hulu was offered for just 99c or $1.99 a month, are also being contacted to inform them that the price will increase once their initial promotion runs out. In reality, getting both Disney+ and Hulu for just around $4 a month was only going to last so long.

While the removal of the Disney+ Add-On might seem strange, it does make sense to shift users to the Disney Duo bundle instead since they both offer the exact same content, removing additional options and simplifying the process.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Disney Streaming Bundle of Disney+ and Hulu is usually offered in either an ad-free or ad-supported option. However, it seems existing add-on customers are being offered the hybrid option of a Legacy Disney Bundle that is no longer available to new subscribers since the Disney+ add-on was introduced before the existence of an ad-supported tier.

What do you think of Hulu removing the Disney+ Add-On option?  Let me know on social media!
