Hulu Original “Obituary” Returning For A Second Season
Last year, a new Irish comedy series called “Obituary” was released on Hulu in the United States. The show tells the story of 24-year-old Elvira Clancy, who is feeling a little unfulfilled, although she adores her new job writing obituaries, but when her newspaper falls on hard times and her boss cuts her salary, she finds herself being paid per obituary overnight.
When she “accidentally” kills a nasty piece of work in the town, she discovers she might have a previously untapped bloodlust! She relishes using ever more crafty methods to kill off the town’s unpleasant residents while making them look like accidents. Stalk. Kill. Publish. Repeat. Unfortunately, a wrench lands in the works – the paper hires a suspicious new crime correspondent and she really, really likes him.
Variety is reporting that a second season of “Obituary” is currently in development and will consist of six episodes. Hulu will once again contribute to the funding of this Irish comedy, as it airs on RTE in Ireland.
The first season stars Siobhán Cullen (“The Dry”, “Origin”, “The Long Call”, “Paula”, “Bodkin”), Michael Smiley (“Bad Sisters”, “Bloodlands”, Gunpowder Milkshake), Ronan Raftery (“The Rook”, Mortal Engines, “The Terror”), Danielle Galligan (“Shadow and Bone”, Lakelands, KIN), and David Ganly (Moon Knight; “Body of Lies”).
It’s unknown if any of these actors will be returning or if any new actors will be joining the cast. No other details, such as when filming will begin or when it’s likely to be released, have been announced.
“Obituary” is written by award-winning Irish scriptwriter Ray Lawlor (“Le Ceangal”), lead directed by John Hayes (“Dublin Murders”, “Bancroft”) with Oonagh Kearney (“Vardy vs Rooney”). It was produced by Nell Green (“The Outfit”, “The Undeclared War”).
You can watch the first season of “Obituary” on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ now. Internationally the series is available on a variety of different streaming services including Netflix in the UK and Crave in Canada.
