Hulu App To Be Discontinued On The Nintendo Switch Ahead Of Disney+ Merger

Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen Disney+ slowly add more and more Hulu content via the Hulu On Disney+ hub, and later this year, Disney is planning on merging Hulu fully into Disney+ in the United States, to bring the streaming service in line with how it operates internationally.   As part of this process, the Hulu app is going to eventually be closed down, setting Disney+ up as the main platform to access all of Disney’s entertainment.

With the upcoming merger of Hulu into Disney+, we will begin to see changes. One of the first platforms affected will be the Nintendo Switch, as the Hulu app will be removed from the console’s eShop on February 5th 2026.  The Hulu app originally launched on the Nintendo eShop in 2017.

The Hulu app is no longer available in the Nintendo Switch eShop with support for the application ending on February 5, 2026.

While this will no doubt be a problem for Hulu subscribers who use their Nintendo Switch to access the streaming service, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see the Switch impacted first, since the majority of streaming services, such as Netflix and Disney+, also aren’t available on the Nintendo console, since its been a difficult platform for many apps to operate on this system.

Disney hasn’t confirmed when Hulu will be merged into Disney+ in the United States, nor when the Hulu app will be fully shut down, but it’s likely to be several months later, allowing most users to migrate to Disney+.

Roger’s Take:  Regardless of the merger between Hulu and Disney+, it’s likely that support for the Nintendo console will have been removed at some point anyway, especially following the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and how the eShop has barely any other streaming service available.  With ongoing updates, it likely wasn’t cost-effective to continue supporting and maintaining the app, which will be removed later this year anyway.
