Earlier this week, it was revealed that ABC had cancelled the comedy series, “Home Economics”, following the show’s future being put into doubt earlier this year when the cast options were extended beyond the June 30th deadline. With the writer’s and actor’s strikes delaying decisions, plus with Disney looking to cut costs and reduce the amount of general entertainment content it creates.

“Home Economics” takes a look at the heartwarming, yet awkward relationship among three adult siblings: one in the 1%, one middle-class and one barely holding on. This season, the family dynamics are even more complicated now that Connor owns Tom’s publishing company, Sarah and Denise have to move into Connor’s house and a family secret is blown wide open.

Following the news of the cancellation, the show’s co-creator Michael Colton, took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the cancellation:

“Making 42 episodes of Home Economics has been the best experience of my career, and that’s due to our incredible cast, crew and fans. Though the show has run its course at ABC, I’m hopeful the Hayworths will pop up somewhere else, if only so I can continue to embarrass my real-life family. Thank you to those who’ve reached out and expressed your love and support of the show. #LupeForever

And co-creator John Aboud, also took to Twitter to share some initial thoughts on the cancellation:

Will try for a more specific post later, but for now just a quick thank you to our hilarious cast, amazing crew, supportive execs, and lovely viewers. It was a joy to work on @HomeEconABC @mikecolton and I will forever be grateful for the experience. #HomeEconomics

Since the show is a co-production between ABC Signature and Lionsgate, it does open the door for Lionsgate to potentially continue the show for another network or for one of their own, since ABC doesn’t want to.

The series stars Topher Grace as Tom, Caitlin McGee as Sarah, Jimmy Tatro as Connor, Karla Souza as Marina and Sasheer Zamata as Denise. Also starring are Shiloh Bearman as Gretchen, Jordyn Curet as Shamiah, Chloe Jo Rountree as Camila, JeCobi Swain as Kelvin and Lidia Porto as Lupe.

The previous three seasons of “Home Economics” are available to stream now on Hulu and internationally, the show is available on various streaming services since Lionsgate has the international distribution rights to the show.
