“Holes” Disney+ Original Series Cast Revealed
Disney is currently developing a brand new series for Disney+ based on the beloved 1998 book “Holes” from Louis Sachar, which was also released as a movie by Disney in 2003.
The series will follow Hayley, a teenage girl, who is sent to a detention camp where the ruthless Warden forces the campers to dig holes for a mysterious purpose.
Disney has ordered a pilot for the series, and some of the cast have been revealed, which will include Greg Kinnear (As Good As It Gets, Little Miss Sunshine), Aidy Bryant (SNL, Shrill), and Shay Rudolph (The Baby-Sitters Club, Lethal Weapon).
Also set to star in the pilot are Flor Delis Alicea (Love the Skin You’re In), Anire Kim Amoda (The Penguin), Noah Cottrell (The Spiderwick Chronicles), Iesha Daniels, Sophie Dieterlen, Alexandra Doke (City on Fire), and Maeve Press (Everything’s Gonna Be Okay).
Some character details for the show have also been revealed, with Grey Kinnear will be playing the role of The Warden, the boss at Camp Yucca, with a flair for manipulation and getting the upper hand on his campers. He has created a camp ideology to explain the virtue of having girls dig holes, but this is actually a ruse; he is really forcing the girls to labour for a mysterious purpose.
Aidy Bryant plays Sissy, who is overflowing with camp counselor energy. She seems like a trustworthy big sister figure to the girls, but as a true believer of The Warden’s philosophy, her allegiance lies with him.
While Shay Rudolph will play the role of Hayley, who arrives at Camp Yucca after being wrongly accused. She’s full of heart and tired of her family’s belief that fate is fixed; her arrival will inject new hope and optimism into her campmates.
It’s also been revealed that Flor Delis Alicea will play the role of Queenie, the tough queen bee, a seemingly fearless leader whose hard edges cover up her vulnerability. Anire Kim Amoda is playing Thumbelina, who is bold and not scared of anything or anyone, not even The Warden.
Noah Cottrell plays Kitch, who works in the kitchen at Camp Yucca. He is a stickler for the rules, but we’ll soon learn there is secret, deeper reason he’s intent on maintaining his job. And Iesha Daniels plays Mars, a brainy, charismatic, no-nonsense, and a bit of a player among the queer female campers.
Sophie Dieterlen plays Sticky, an everyday-dreaming girly-girl with a kind heart and an abiding passion for clothes, but she can be serious and driven when needed. With Alexandra Doke plays Eyeball, a mischievous, zany artist who sees the world in her own idiosyncratic way and often lightens a heavy mood with a joke. And Maeve Press plays Shrimp, the youngest and smallest of the campers, and her unusual, blunt nature makes her an outcast amongst the girls.
Alina Mankin, who will be an executive producer, will write this new Disney+ series. Liz Phang will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Drew Goddard and Sarah Esberg will executive produce via Goddard Textiles.
The pilot is going to be directed by Jac Schaeffer, who has also previously worked on “Agatha All Along”, “WandaVision”, “Black Widow” and the Frozen short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.”
20th Television is going to be the studio creating the show. Walden Media, which produced the original film, will be producing the upcoming series and has been working on trying to get this project going for a while. Mike Medavoy will executive produce, with rights holder Shamrock also executive producing. Andrea Massaro of Goddard Textiles is a co-executive producer.
Since the project is still in the early stages and has only been given a pilot, it doesn’t necessarily mean the show will happen, and if it does, it might be a while until we see it released on Disney+.
While we wait for the new “Holes” series, you can check out the original film on Disney+ now.
