“Hocus Pocus 3” Director & Writer Revealed
This past weekend, during a recent interview with the New York Times, the Walt Disney Studios President Sean Bailey, to promote “The Little Mermaid”, revealed that a third “Hocus Pocus” film is in development and according to The Wrap, the recent sequels film’s director Anne Fletcher will be returning to direct the third instalment. It was also revealed “Hocus Pocus 2” writer Jen D’Angelo will also return to write the third film.
The original “Hocus Pocus” film was released in 1993, but wasn’t a box office hit, but over time it became a cult classic, with viewers watching it every Halloween season in huge numbers. In the first film, after 300 years of slumber, three sister witches are accidentally resurrected in Salem on Halloween night, and it is up to three kids and their newfound feline friend to put an end to the witches reign of terror once and for all.
And the second film is set 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.
Anne Fletcher has previously directed “27 Dresses”, “The Proposal”, and “Hot Pursuit”. And Jen D’Angelo has previously written on “Cougar Town”, “Young Rock”, and “Workaholics”.
No other details on a third film have yet been revealed, such as if the original cast, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, will be returning. Or if this film will be once again a Disney+ Original film or if it will be getting a theatrical release. It’s not a surprise to see Disney returning to the “Hocus Pocus” franchise, following on from the huge success of the Disney+ release of, “Hocus Pocus 2”, which was released on the streaming platform last Halloween season and became the most-watched film premiere on Disney+ domestically to date, based on hours streamed in the first three days of its release.
While we wait for the third film to be made, you can watch the first two “Hocus Pocus” films on Disney+ now.
