New casting details on the upcoming FX limited series “Shōgun” have recently been revealed by Deadline, who are reporting that Hiroyuki Sanada (The Twilight Samurai) and Cosmo Jarvis (Lady Macbeth) will be playing two of the three leads in the show,  Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne.

During December’s Investor Day event, Disney revealed the series would be coming to Hulu and to Disney+ as a Star Original.

This series will be FX’s most sweeping, sophisticated and adult series they’ve ever created and is a retelling of James Clavell’s beloved epic saga, Shōgun, set within the riveting and real Game of Thrones that was feudal Japan.

It is adapted by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo. Tim Van Patten, the highly decorated, award-winning producer of The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire, and the director of the pilot and early episodes of “Game of Thrones,” has signed on to bring this giant and visceral canvas to life.

The series was originally greenlighted in 2018, but was put on hold to make the project bigger.

Production is due to start this summer and originally, the plan was was to film a significant part of the series in Japan, but due to the current situation in Japan with the pandemic and the Summer Olympics, filming might take place elsewhere.
