The upcoming Disney+ Original Marvel series Loki has added Gugu Mbatha-Raw to it’s cast.  According to Deadline, she has been cast has as a prominent character, which is described as the female lead.  But Marvel is apparently keeping what role she is playing a secret.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw has recently appeared in the Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show” and has also appeared in Netflix’s Black Mirror and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, in addition to starring in Disney’s “A Wrinkle In Time” and “Beauty and the Beast”.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, he shared some more details on the role:

Loki is about time travel. TVA is invloved. Looks like they will capture him at first but then will use him to help them get the villain(?) Gugu’s character is consider a co-lead she’s in 6 episodes, she’s “A leader” and they were looking at men for the role as wellMeaning she’s likely playing the leader of TVA, who’s a man in the comics – Mr. Alternity. Own’s character is set to appear in 4 episodes. Likely playing Justice Peace.

Filming for Loki is currently underway in Atlanta, which is why we got a little sneak peek at the upcoming show during the Disney+ “Big Game” commercial last week.  The series is being written by Michael Waldron, and directed by Kate Herron.

Loki will be coming to Disney+ in Spring 2021.
