After months of speculation, Disney’s ABC has revealed that its mega-hit hospital drama, “Grey’s Anatomy”, will be returning for a twentieth season.

The show is already the longest-running primetime medical drama and is one of the most popular shows available on streaming, with it constantly trending on Disney+ around the world. The series was a recipient of the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Television Series and has been nominated for multiple Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series, The high-intensity medical drama, now in its 19th season, follows Meredith Grey and the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial who are faced with life-or-death decisions daily. They seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.

Deadline has revealed that Meg Marinis will be taking over the role as the showrunner for season 20, replacing Krista Vernoff, who is leaving the series at the end of this current season.

It’s not yet been confirmed if the spin-off series, “Station 19”, will also be returning as apparently, the deals are still being worked out, but is likely to return for a seventh season.

In the current season, Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, which the show is named after, has stepped away from the screen, but will continue to be an executive producer on the show. She is also likely to continue to make appearances and narrate the series.

ABC is also looking to make new deals with many of the longtime cast members, which are coming up this season, including Kevin McKidd (Owen), Kim Raver (Teddy), Camilla Luddington (Jo) and Caterina Scorsone (Amelia).

The current season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is available to stream now on Hulu in the United States, and previous seasons are available on Netflix. While internationally, the current season, along with previous seasons, are available on Disney+.
