Way back at the Star Wars Celebration event in London, England, in 2023, Lucasfilm announced it would be creating a brand new movie, which will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will see the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker.

The “Rey” film is going to be set 15 years after the events of “Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker”, with Rey teaching a new group of Padawans.

The upcoming film, which is currently known as “New Jedi Order”, is now, according to THR, going to be written by George Nolfi, who has previously worked on “The Bourne Ultimatum”, “The Adjustment Bureau” and “Ocean’s 12”.

This film, like many of the recent Star Wars projects, has gone through some development problems and the “Rey” movie is no exception, as it has had multiple writers attached to the project, including Damon Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson and Steven Knight.

With all of these script delays, production on the upcoming “Rey” movie has also been delayed, as originally, it was expected to follow the upcoming movie, “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, that hits cinemas in May 2026, but instead that will now be Shawn Levy’s (Deadpool & Wolverine), which is reported to begin production later this year.

Lucasfilm has changed its initial plans to focus on making shows for Disney+ and, instead, shifted back to theatrical movie releases after many of the Star Wars shows failed to connect with audiences and resulted in a decline of consumer interest due to a reduction in quality.

Roger’s Take:  Since George has only spent a short time working on the script for the new movie, and Shawn Levy’s film looks like it’s the next one to go into production, it might be a few years before we see it on the big screen.
