Four Disney Channels To Be Removed From Verizon Fios TV
As cord-cutting continues to grow as people drop traditional linear channels for streaming options, we’ve seen lots of changes within the traditional linear business, as major studios shut down channels and even spin off their linear channels into separate companies.
Disney continues to state that linear television is still an essential part of its entertainment business, but its channel lineup does look to be slowly shrinking, Verizon Fios is informing customers that from April 14th 2025, four Disney-owned channels will be removed from the Fios TV packages:
The channels set to be removed include:
- Disney Jr
- Disney XD
- FX Movies
- Nat Geo Wild
These channels are available on various Fios TV packages, so if you’re an impacted customer, you may need to adjust your plan, either by going to the My Verizon section on the service’s website or by calling Verizon’s help desk.
The notice of these channel removals has been confirmed by Verizon on social media, and customers are starting to get notifications within their on-screen notifications.
Verizon offers a wide range of options, including the ability to bundle Disney+ and Hulu on many of its internet and phone plans.
Back in late 2023, Disney announced a new carriage deal with Charter, which resulted in Spectrum customers being provided Disney+ in their TV packages, but as part of the deal, a number of Disney channels were removed from the bundle, including all four channels that Fios TV is removing from its packages. As new carriage deals are signed with cable companies, all of which are looking to create cheaper, skinnier bundles offering fewer channels, it’s likely that eventually, many of these spin-off channels will get closed down.
Internationally, Disney has been closing down many of its traditional linear channels for years, as audiences have moved away from cable and satellite television packages.
With fewer and fewer people having access to these channels, it’s very likely that at some point in the future, Disney could close them down completely as it streamlines its linear business to focus on its core channels such as ABC, FX, Nat Geo and the Disney Channel. These spin-off channels were originally created during a time when streaming wasn’t an option and it was a way of giving audiences much more choice.
Disney has been reducing its original programming efforts for these channels, and all of its shows are also shared with Disney+ and Hulu.
